Breast augmentations, or implants, have been around for decades and continue to remain one of the most sought-after surgical procedures among women today. The procedure allows women to increase the size and enhance the natural contour of their breasts. Your breast surgery is a highly individualized procedure that’s tailored to your needs every step of the way.
Whether you feel that you were born with breasts that are too small or have experienced volume-loss as a result of pregnancy, changes in weight, or aging, a breast augmentation can be a life-changing procedure.
A Breast Augmentation Can:*
- Create fuller, more rounded breasts
- Improve your breast’s natural symmetry and cleavage
- Provide a better fit for clothing
- Enhance the projection of breasts
- Boost self-image and self-confidence
How Does a Breast Augmentation Work?*
Your breast surgery will be done as an outpatient procedure in our accredited surgical facility. At the time of your surgery, Dr. Harris will make precise incisions along the natural contours of your breasts to minimize visible scarring. He’ll then insert the implants below the underlying muscle. Breast augmentations are a relatively straightforward procedure and can be completed in as little as an hour. Women who would also like to correct breast droopiness and/or reposition the nipple higher for a more youthful contour may want to consider a breast lift at the same time.
When Can I Expect to See Results?*
Immediately following your breast augmentation, you’ll see a noticeable increase in bust size. It can take upwards of several weeks or even months for your breasts to fully ‘settle’ into their new position. Typically, women report seeing the most significant improvements about 2-3 weeks after their procedure as implants begin to settle.
Does It Hurt?*
You may choose to undergo the surgery with general anesthesia or via IV sedation and local anesthetic (Dr. Harris will walk you through the pros/cons of each). Either option will keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Mild to moderate post-surgical pain may occur for several days. During this time medication can be prescribed to minimize discomfort. In most cases, pain should significantly dissipate after 1-week. It’s important to follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions as closely as possible to prevent complications and ensure a speedy healing process.
Am I a Good Candidate?*
A breast augmentation is a very personal decision that takes a great deal of consideration. You may benefit from a breast augmentation if you are unhappy with the current size and shape of your breasts. Patients who go into the procedure with realistic expectations are more likely to achieve their desired results. As with any surgical procedure, ideal candidates are non-smokers who are in otherwise good physical health. Women who are pregnant or nursing are not suitable candidates.
